Steel OS 3 Beta 2 (Steel OS 3 Beta 2 Build 2955B)
Steel OS 3 has finally reached the end of Beta 2, with version 3.0.2955B.B2main, aka build 2955B. The reason why there is a B at the end of the build number is due to this being a x64-only recompile of the original 2955, which has not been uploaded, as it will not work (it gives an out-of-memory or oom error before it even finishes getting started). The reason for the massive skip in builds between 2681 and 2955 is that I was on break (and just got back), using a lot of the time for Steel OS 3 development and some work going towards Waterfall, a successor project to Steel OS 3 which is planned to be the next release of Steel OS following Steel OS 3.
Note: It is highly recommended that if you are using an older build, that you upgrade to this build. It is a rather easy process. I highly recommend you do this, because this newer one uses a x64-only Electron package, while older builds used a version of Electron also supporting 32-bit technology, which despite increasing compatibility with legacy systems, will limit the amount of usable memory, which, if runs out, may crash Steel OS with a blank screen of death instead of a standard red stop error screen of death.' If you previously used EggScope content, you may have to reconfigure that content. You may also have to re-configure any cursor and/or D&T (Date & Time) settings too.
So, what's new? All websites on the new SPEAR protocol have landing pages, all stock programs are effectively complete, and more content is available in the Marketplace. More content will be added that can be installed via Marketplace or viewed via a Steel OS web browser before the final release. Also, it is for this reason, that heading into RC 1, that you can now refer to the OS by its final name in public and refer to it normally, instead of calling it "Sansani Hagane" and referring to the OS as a "she/her". This was mainly done in case the OS went viral during development to cover the project up.
It is highly advised that you also frequently test drive this build, and that you let me know of any bugs in the OS. I want to make sure the RTM build is as smooth and flawless, which was not the case with Steel OS 2.0, where bugs were so bad in some areas that I made Steel OS 2.3, which patched a lot of bugs and immediately rendered Steel OS 2.0 obsolete.
Going forward, a more technically advanced release is to follow after Steel OS 3, codenamed Waterfall. Fun fact - Another codename I considered to use for Waterfall was Mirai (the Japanese word for "future"), because it would've been used to define the drastic changes to come in that release.
